Taveuni is Fiji's third largest island located just southeast of Vanua Levu. It is also named Garden Isle, mainly because of the eruptions of Mount Uluqalau which have created a fertile and lush green tropical rainforests island, perfect for gardening. Popular tourist resorts include Matei all in the northeast and Lavena more to the south. Other small towns are Wairiki and the Wairiki Catholic Mission, Waiyevo with its international dateline, Somosomo and Naqara in the south.

Eco tourism is big in Fiji offering all from the lush 5km long Lavena Coastal Walk to strengthenous hikes towards the crater lake of Lake Tagimaucia. The Bouma National Heritage Park is Fiji's largest protected reserve of rainforest. There you can visit Waitabu Marine Area for its splendid snorkeling, make an excellent hike towards the Tavoro waterfalls or swim below the waterfall of Wainibau. Other attractions include the Taveuni Forest Preserve, Ravilevu Nature Preserve, Warrior Burial Cave, the Vuna blowholes, a hike to the top of Des Voeux and its many beautiful flowers and plants you will spot on each outdoor activity.

Scuba divers have probably heard of Rainbow Reef, a fantastic 30km long reef in the heart of the Somosomo Strait, in between Taveuni and mainland Vanua Levu. This is also where you can find the Great White Wall, one of Fiji's best and most popular dive sites. The Somosomo Strait brings in nutrient waters allowing soft corals and fish to grow to unforgettable sizes, beautiful colors and huge numbers. But diving in Taveuni in not only restricted to Rainbow Reef. Taveuni is located near Kioa Island, Rabi Island, Matagi Island, Laucala Island, Yanuca Island, Qamea Island and Kaimbu Island, all pristine islands with a lot of dive potential. Taveuni is also not far from the northern Lau Islands which are world renowned for its splendid scuba diving. Therefore Taveuni is one of the best locations to book dive tours, in especially multiple day liveaboard cruises. You can easily reach the atolls Qelelevu, Duff Reef and Walagilala. But excellent diving and snorkeling nearby at Vuna Reef will amaze even professional divers.
