Vanua Levu is Fiji's second largest island, less touristic, less developed, a place to experience real Fijian life and surrounded by some of the best coral reefs, located just north of Taveuni. The small towns Savusavu and Labasa are Vanua Levu's main settlements. Savusavu offers a very nice pristine bay, lots of hot springs, the famous Coprashed Marina and resorts opening up that provide basic needs for dive tourists to explore the outstanding dive sites nearby. In Labasa, it is all about sugar cane, which is grown in the area in large quantities. Other places of interest are the plenty of small fishing villages, some volcanic lava outcroppings, gold mines, bird watching, kayaking, thick forests with cascades and waterfalls, walking trails and lots of stunning other scenery.

Best known to scuba divers is Savusavu offering plenty of guesthouses, dive shops and other tourist activities. Some of the other larger islands are Namenalala, housing a small wildlife sanctuary and being the base of a dive on the great Namena Reef. Natewa Bay is famous for its many dolphins, which as a tourist attraction are literally 'called' by locals. Other islands in the south are the privately owned islands Kioa and Rabi Island both easily reached through Buca Bay and north of the Tunuloa Peninsula. There are many reefs that haven't been mapped where divers can enjoy Fiji's amazing walls, caves and overhangs.
